UPDATE: Romoland woman, 29, ID’d after deadly 5-vehicle crash in Menifee

MENIFEE, Calif., — Authorities say a woman was killed and another victim was hospitalized after a five-vehicle rollover crash in the Menifee area Thursday evening, July 29. Although a woman was detained at the scene on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving, she was later released after officials say she passed a series of field sobriety tests and officers determined she was not over the legal limit.

California Highway Patrol, CAL FIRE-Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the northbound 215 Freeway, between Newport Road and McCall Boulevard, around 9 p.m., after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the collision.

When officials arrived they found five involved vehicles, including an SUV that had overturned.

One of the victims involved in the crash was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another victim was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital with injuries since described as moderate.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials later identified Jazmine Gomez, 29, of Romoland, as the victim killed in the accident. A coroner’s release indicated she was pronounced deceased at 9:09 p.m.

One adult female was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving; however, she was later released from custody after officers performed a series of sobriety tests and determined she was not under the influence.

CHP’s investigation is continuing and no further details have been released.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
