Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly before 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a possible carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon at a strip mall, Sergeant Ed Baeza has since reported.

When officials arrived they found an adult male on the ground between two vehicles suffering from multiple stab wounds and other injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. HIs name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.

The suspect had already fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival and deputies quickly secured the area as a crime scene, detaining a number of potential witnesses in the process.

Members of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit along with station investigators responded and assumed the investigation.

“According to a crime broadcast, the suspect is believed to have stolen a blue Honda Accord a few miles from the homicide scene,” Mike Lange of LoudLabs News, who covered the incident from the scene and interviewed at least one possible victim/witness, later reported.

“According to a witness, the suspect approached her with a knife and wanted to get into her van,” Lange described; adding, “She told him to get away.”

However, before Lange could finish the interview, “deputies interrupted the interview and moved the witness away from the media,” the photojournalist and videographer explained in a social media post, which can be seen below.
