Riverside man arrested for attempted murder, rape of teen girl

RIVERSIDE, Calif., — Authorities have arrested a man they say used the Internet and social media to lure at least one teenage girl to an isolated location where he then allegedly raped and sodomized the young victim over the weekend.

Officials believe the suspect had help from an as-yet unidentified woman in locating and luring additional teen victims during similar incidents and are now asking the community for help in identifying and locating that woman as well as other possible victims.

City of Riverside police officers began investigating this weekend’s attack on Sunday, Aug. 15, around 9 a.m., after being dispatched to a Riverside hospital to interview a female victim of a sexual assault, Riverside Police Department has since reported.

Investigating officers learned a man, since identified as Osvaldo Miguel Manuel Sebastian, 24, of Riverside, used social media to meet the un-named juvenile victim. He then took her to an unspecified isolated location where he raped and sodomized her.

“The suspect has also used a young woman to help him meet these victims,” said RPD. “It is believed a red Toyota Camry and a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck have been used while committing these violent crimes.”

Based on the circumstances, detectives with the Sexual Assault – Child Abuse Unit responded and assumed the investigation, and were able to identify Sebastian as the suspect.

Later Sunday afternoon, detectives located Sebastian in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Myers Street in Riverside and arrested him. He was then booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as rape and sodomy by force.

Online jail records indicate he remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice tomorrow, Aug. 18.
