UPDATE: Stabbed by Redding juvenile last month, homeless Auburn man, 56, dies from injuries

REDDING, Calif., — City of Redding Police officials were saddened to announce yesterday the death of a homeless man who was stabbed during a violent encounter with a juvenile during what they previously described as an “apparently unprovoked knife attack” that occurred last month. The victim, 56-year-old, Felix Ramirez, of Auburn, California, had remained in critical condition until his passing yesterday morning, Friday, Sept. 3.

Arrested shortly after the deadly incident, the juvenile remains in custody on his original charge of attempted murder. However, Redding PD detectives have notified the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office of Ramirez’s passing and requested the juvenile to be charged with murder. Due to his age and confidentiality laws, the alleged suspect’s name has not ben released.

Redding Police Sergeant Rob Garnero previously reported that City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of South Market Street at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25th, after receiving reports of a blood covered man down in the roadway.

When officers arrived they found Ramirez, unresponsive and with multiple stab wounds, laying within the road. He was rushed to an area hospital as a trauma alert for treatment of his critical injuries, where he underwent emergency surgery and had remained in critical condition until his passing yesterday. His next of kin have been notified of his passing, according to the Sergeant.

“As police searched the area surrounding the crime scene, they contacted a 17-year-old male juvenile with blood stains on his clothing and person,” Garnero said in yesterday’s updated release. “The juvenile was ultimately arrested for the stabbing, but did not provide a clear motive.”

The juvenile was booked at the Shasta County Juvenile Hall for attempted murder, where he remains in custody.
