Redding motel search yields weapons & narcotics – Felon arrested

REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say a local felon was arrested after a search at a Redding motel led to the discovery of a firearm and other weapons, as well as fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine and drug sales paraphernalia Sunday evening, Sept. 26.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a City of Redding police officer spotted a known, wanted subject enter a hotel room at the Capri Motel located at 4620 Westside Road, Redding Police Corporal Wes Townsley has since said of the search and arrest.

“Officers attempted to contact and arrest the subject inside the hotel room and found the room was occupied by multiple subjects,” said Townsley.

One of the motel room’s occupants was identified as Corey James Cornellier, 34, of Redding. He was found to be on active probation and have a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear for a court mandated work release program.

During a subsequent search of the room officers located a firearm, baton, and multiple packaged drugs including fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine, as well as drug sales paraphernalia.

Based on their investigation and findings, officers arrested Cornellier and he was later booked into the Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of being a felon and drug addict in possession of a firearm, possession of a lead cane and possession of controlled substances for sale.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
