Oregon man, 49, killed in solo-vehicle Hwy 89 crash near Burney

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif., — Authorities say a fiery crash into a tree resulted in the driver’s death early this morning, Tuesday, Oct. 5. The fatal, solo-vehicle accident happened on Highway 89, just south of Lake Road and about one mile south of McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, according to officials.

California Highway Patrol and other area emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 3:15 a.m. after a witness reported the crash. The caller also reported that the impact had sparked a small vegetation fire.

CHP has since said the driver and sole-occupant, a 49-year-old man from Oregon, died in the crash. The man’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.

CHP’s investigation revealed that the man was traveling southbound on SR-89 at an unknown speed, when for reasons still under investigation his vehicle drifted off the highway and hit a tree. It was not immediately clear if the victim was wearing his seat belt when the early morning accident occurred.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
