City of Redding officers and detectives began investigating Baker’s murder on June 25, around 9 p.m., after responding to reports of a shooting with a man down, Redding Police Sergeant Jon Sheldon reported at the time.

When officials arrived they found Baker suffering from a gunshot wound and he was rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Over the next week, detectives developed leads and gathered information that ultimately led them to identifying Lee as the gunman. Officials learned Lee had fled the state and was possibly in Minnesota and on July 7th, obtained an arrest warrant for the absconded man, charging him with Baker’s murder.

On Nov. 25, officers from the Blaine, Minnesota Police Department responded to a routine noise complaint, where they contacted a man who initially provided them with a false name.

However, when Blaine police officers discovered Lee’s true identity they arrested him on the outstanding murder warrant and notified Redding PD of his apprehension.

On Dec. 7th, Redding police detectives traveled to Minnesota, where they took custody of Lee and extradited him back to Redding for questioning.

As a result, Lee was ultimately arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail in Redding the following day.

Online jail records indicate he remains in custody, where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail or bond.

City of Redding police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene just after 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting inside the complex, Redding Police Sergeant Rob Garnero has since reported.

When officials arrived they found a man, since identified as Patrick Baker, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed by ambulance to the Mercy Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

During their subsequent investigation, which was led by Redding PD’s Detective Division, portions of the apartment complex were closed for more than twelve hours while officials combed the complex for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses to the fatal encounter.

Detectives learned that Baker had been involved in a confrontation with a group of men moments before he was fatally shot, but Garnero said officials have not been able to fully determine what the argument was about.

“During the altercation, one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot at the victim, subsequently striking him,” the sergeant explained; adding, “The group of men fled the location prior to the arrival of police. The suspected shooter is unknown as detectives continue to track down leads.”

Anyone with information regarding this shooting or who knows the identity and/or whereabouts of the gunman is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200. Callers can refer to incident file number 21R042160 and can remain anonymous.
