SAN JACINTO, Calif., — Authorities say a young bicyclist has died after being run over by a commercial pickup truck and trailer in a residential San Jacinto neighborhood yesterday morning, Wednesday, Jan. 5.

The deadly accident happened in the 400 block of Bryce Canyon Way, a short cul-de-sac featuring fewer than a dozen homes off Country Village Way, northeast of W. Ramona Expressway and Eagle Road.

Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 11:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a major injury traffic collision involving a juvenile struck by a pickup truck, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Dawn Blair has since reported.

When officials arrived, they located a young boy who had been struck by a 3500 Dodge truck with an attached utility trailer, according to Blair; who said the victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office later identified Johan Orozco, 7, of San Jacinto, as the boy killed in the collision. A Coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased by paramedics at 11:42 a.m.

The involved driver, whose vehicle had markings from GCA Roofing Services out of Hemet, was uninjured in the collision. He had remained at the scene and is continuing to cooperate with the sheriff’s investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies from the station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team determined the pickup truck and trailer had been traveling westbound on Bryce Canyon Way when it collided with the juvenile who had been riding his bicycle on the roadway.

It was not immediately clear if the boy had been wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal accident, but officials have ruled out alcohol and or drug intoxication as possible contributing factors on the part of the pickup’s driver.

Bryce Canyon Way was closed for the duration of the initial on-scene investigation but has since been reopened.
