Lake Elsinore motorcyclist who officials say ran red light ID’d after deadly crash

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif., — Authorities say a local motorcyclist who ran a red light in Lake Elsinore was killed when he collided into another vehicle Sunday evening, Feb. 6. The deadly accident, which sent the other motorist to the hospital with minor injuries, happened at the intersection of Grand Avenue and McVicker Canyon Park Road, according to officials.

Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. after receiving reports of a major injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Brad Foster later reported.

Officials arrived at the scene within minutes and found a motorcyclist down in the roadway. The rider’s black sportbike and the other involved vehicle along with its driver were found nearby.

Witnesses who ran to the intersection from the nearby McVicker Canyon Skate Park and surrounding residential neighborhood after hearing the collision later told RCNS they saw firefighter/paramedics performing CPR on the critically injured rider and providing other medical aid for several minutes.

Despite life-saving efforts the victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has since identified Ryan Rice, 38, of Lake Elsinore as the motorcyclist killed in the collision. A Coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 7:08 p.m.

The other driver was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries that Cal Fire later described as minor.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies determined Rice was ejected from his motorcycle after running a red light and being struck by the motorist.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
