Trio of teens nabbed after high-speed pursuit ends with crash into San Jacinto business
SAN JACINTO, Calif., — A trio of teens who led deputies on a high-speed pursuit that ended when the vehicle they were in crashed into a San Jacinto business were apprehended last night, Monday, Feb. 21.
Although none of the teens were injured in the accident, the business the vehicle crashed into, SJ Sports Shop, located in the 100 block of State Street at the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue / Brinton Street, was heavily damaged in the collision.

At around 9:40 p.m., deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on a Honda Sedan occupied by three individuals in the area of Cottonwood Avenue and Kirby Street.
When the driver failed to yield and attempted to accelerate away from deputies, a pursuit was initiated.
Although several cases of beer and numerous open hard liquor and other alcohol containers were found littered throughout the wrecked Honda, the driver was found to be sober. As the pursuit continued eastbound on Cottonwood Avenue approaching State Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle and plowed through a tree before crashing at high-speed into SJ Sports Shop.
As a sheriff’s helicopter circled overhead, video filmed at the scene by Michele Lopez, (which can be viewed below), showed deputies using a PA system to order the vehicle’s three male occupants from their wrecked Honda and out of the heavily damaged business.
They were each subsequently taken into custody and detained without further incident.
After learning all three of the occupants were minors, deputies contacted their parents and requested them to the scene.
Although several cases of beer and numerous open hard liquor and other alcohol containers were found inside the wrecked Honda, the driver passed a series of field sobriety tests and was determined to not be under the influence. He was arrested at the scene for felony evading and later released to the custody of his parents.
The two passengers were also eventually released to their parents.

Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Brandy Swan later said out-of-custody charges will be sought against the driver for felony eluding and that no other injuries were reported as a result of the pursuit and crash.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
