Pilot uninjured after plane crashes into parked car, aircraft hangar in Banning

BANNING, Calif., — A pilot was lucky to walk away uninjured after crashing into an aircraft hangar at the Banning Municipal Airport Saturday morning Feb. 26.

The plane, a 1975 single-engine Cessna 172M, sustained heavy damage in the accident, which also damaged the hangar’s doors as well as a car that was parked in front of the hangar.

Banning police officers, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the airport shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of an aircraft emergency, Cal Fire later reported.

It was not immediately clear if the involved plane crashed upon takeoff or landing, or if the aircraft had been taxiing to or from the hangar when yesterday’s aircraft emergency occurred. Eddie George and Laurie Cain / Hemet News photo

Responding to the airport, located on the 200 block of Hathaway Street, emergency personnel found a small Cessna plane that had crashed into a parked car before plowing into a Skydive West Coast airport hangar.

The pilot, who was the plane’s sole-occupant and whose name has not been released, had already self-extricated from the aircraft and was found to have been uninjured in the mishap.

Although no injuries were reported, the plane, which is registered to Flex Air Holdings out of Wilmington, Delaware, showed heavy damage at the scene.

No details as to what may have led to the accident have been released and the investigation has been turned over to Banning PD, according to Cal Fire.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
