Details sparse following fatal officer & deputy-involved shooting near Mt. Shasta

MT. SHASTA, Calif., — Although very few details have been released, officials this morning confirmed that a subject was killed in an officer and deputy-involved shooting that happened outside the city limits of Mt. Shasta last night, Friday, March 11.

Citing the early and ongoing nature of the investigation, officials this morning said information about the shooting will be limited, pending further investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.

Without releasing the location or any details about the deadly encounter, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Shasta Police Department shared brief social media releases early this morning that stated the officer and deputy-involved shooting happened around 9:53 p.m.

The shooting “resulted in a fatality” and occurred in an unincorporated area of Siskiyou County, according to SCSO’s release.

Mt. Shasta’s release indicated that two officials, including one deputy and one officer, were involved in the fatal shooting.

“All involved deputies and officers were unharmed and have been placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of an investigation,” SCSO reported, adding, “The local Critical Incident Team is handling the investigation.”

“More information will be released in the future, pending the completion of the investigation,” officials went on to say.
