Investigation continuing after man found deceased inside Dunsmuir home destroyed by blaze

DUNSMUIR, Calif., — Authorities say a man was found deceased inside a home that burned during an early morning blaze that tore through a Dunsmuir home Wednesday, March 16.

The deadly fire was reported in the 6000 block of Scherrer Avenue, near Bridge Street and the Sacramento River, according to officials.

Cal Fire, Dunsmuir City Fire, Mt Shasta City Fire, and Castella Fire personnel, along with Siskiyou County sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the residence around 3:30 a.m. after a nearby citizen called 911 and reported the blaze.

When officials arrived, they reported finding a home that was fully engulfed in flames and immediately began an aggressive fire attack.

After the fire was extinguished firefighters located a deceased male inside the burned residence, according to Siskiyou County Sheriff’s officials who have since said, “At this time the deceased male’s identity is not confirmed and the investigation into the origin of the fire is still ongoing.”

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
