Upon contacting the 34-year-old driver, the officer learned he was suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began rendering medical aid, which he continued until medical personnel arrived on scene.

The driver of the car, whose name has not been released, was then transported to Fairchild Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized in stable condition.

During their subsequent investigation, officers began developing leads and gathering information that led them to identifying Patton as a suspect in the shooting. He was last seen driving a blue Toyota Rav4 with Oregon plates and a roof box.

Contacted for more information today, Yreka PD spokesperson Officer Kelly Giordano told SCNS that Patton is known to live in the Klamath Falls and Jackson County areas of southern Oregon but is also known to spend time in the California North State region of Siskiyou County and surrounding areas.

Citing the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, Giordano declined to provide further details, but confirmed that Patton is still outstanding and remains sought.
