Death investigation underway after body found under Redding bridge

REDDING, Calif, — Although few details have been released, officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway after a person’s body was discovered underneath the N. Market Street bridge in Redding on Friday, April 1.

City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the scene around 3:50 p.m. after an area resident reported spotting the body on the bank of the Sacramento River while walking across the bridge, according to Redding Police Cpl. Josiah Ferrin. 

Responding officers located the body and confirmed the person was deceased, at which time they secured the area as a crime scene and requested additional resources to the location.

Officials have since said they were not immediately able to determine the cause of the person’s death or when the victim passed away, but said the body appeared to have been there for several days.

Officials have also said there were no apparent signs of trauma and that the Shasta County Coroner’s Office has taken over the investigation to determine the person’s cause of death.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
