Riverside PD arrests 3 Suspects Following Late Night Burglary
On Nov. 22, at about 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the 5.11 clothing store, located in the 3300 block of Tyler Street regarding the report of a burglary. A witness said the suspects left the area in a flat black panel van and were last seen on Tyler Street, heading towards the 91 freeway.
The Riverside Police Air Support Unit (Air-1) responded from the other side of the city and began checking all the cars going East along the freeway with their nightsun light.
Air-1 quickly located a van matching the suspect vehicle’s description driving East on the freeway at Arlington Avenue. Before assisting patrol officers could get behind it, the van exited at University Avenue and drove through several nearby parking lots at a dangerous and high rate of speed.
The van stopped in the 3700 block of Santa Fe Avenue and the suspects fled from the van, all running in opposite directions. Air-1 followed one suspect who was soon apprehended by officers, with assistance from a K-9 officer.
With assistance from patrol officers, Air-1 set up a perimeter and began a search using their forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera. While searching, a second suspect was located on the railroad tracks near two parked trains and detained by a K-9 officer. A third suspect was seen by a witness at Lemon Street and University Avenue running into a local bar and was located by officers.
All three suspects were arrested for a variety of charges including commercial burglary and possession of illegal drugs. One of the suspects was on Post-Release Community Supervision. All three suspects were later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
