Perris Pedestrian Killed By Drunk Driver

The Coroners office has identified Jose Ledezma Rodriguez, a 39-year-old resident of Perris, as the victim in last Friday’s fatal vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision.

According to a press release from the coroner, Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, December 04, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police station responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision on 4th St., West of Park St., in the city of Perris.

According to Sgt Strang, of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at about 5:36 p.m., a red Honda was traveling eastbound on 4th St. at a high rate of speed while a pedestrian was attempting to cross southbound. The driver of the Honda was not able to stop in time for the pedestrian and struck the victim.

Sgt. Strang stated the pedestrian sustained major, traumatic injuries and was later pronounced deceased on scene.

The Perris Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the locationĀ to conduct an investigation into the fatal accident. During their investigation, the East and West bound lanes of 4th St. were closed until 9:15 PM.

The deceased pedestrian’s name is being withheld pending notification to his family.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Salvador Hurtado Garcia of Perris, was arrested for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Garcia was later booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant J.P. Strang wrote, “Anyone with information on this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Kiebach at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, (951) 210-1000.”
