SAN JACINTO – Today, the coroner identified Andrew Phillips, a 32-Year-old resident of San Jacinto, as the victim who was fatally injured in a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision that occurred on Dec. 15.

The accident reportedly occurred in front of 1977 Hewitt Street, in the city of San Jacinto. The fatal collision was reported at 6:25 p.m. and a report from the coroner’s office listed Phillips’ time of death as 6:39 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY

SAN JACINTO – On December 15, a pedestrian was killed in a fatal traffic collision that occurred  on Hewitt Street south of Esplanade Avenue, in the city of San Jacinto.

At 6:28 p.m., a deputy from the Hemet – Valle Vista Sheriff’s Station happened upon the collision the moment before the call was dispatched. The deputy immediately began to perform CPR and attempted to provide life saving measures for the victim, who has not yet been identified. Additional deputies from the San Jacinto Police Department responded to the report of a fatal traffic collision at the location, arriving within moments.

Deputies continued to perform CPR until relieved by fire personnel from the Riverside County Fire Department, who continued to provide medical treatment and first aid to the mortally wounded pedestrian.

According to Sgt. Himmelberg of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the deputies initial investigation indicated a pedestrian had stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle and was struck. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a press release, Sgt. Himmelberg wrote “The driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment, and there was no indication of excessive speed. Hewitt Street was closed for several hours while the collision was investigated.”

  • Hi Trevor, pass on to the readers that strip of Hewitt is sparsely lit which impairs driver visibility. It doesn’t help that motorist speed through that strip so an accident was bound to happen.
