RIVERSIDE COUNTY: RTA offering free bus rides along all their normal routes New Years Eve
Trevor Montgomery
RIVERSIDE COUNTY – As part of Riverside Transit Agency’s continuing commitment to providing a safe alternative to driving on New Year’s Eve, RTA will once again be offering free rides for all passengers on New Year’s Eve.
Beginning on Thursday, December 31, RTA will offer free rides to passengers after 2:30 p.m. on all fixed-route buses. The free rides will continue all evening, as long as their buses operate.
According to Bradley Weaver, Marketing Manager for RTA, the bus service has been offering this program for the last ten years. About the program, Weaver explained, “This program is a great way for RTA to thank its’ customers for riding the bus. It’s also a way to provide a safe alternative to driving during the holidays.” Continuing, Weaver said, “Thank you for riding and Happy New Year!”
RTA’s buses, which were all replaced beginning in 2013, feature air conditioning and spacious interiors, including padded and contoured seats for better comfort. The vehicles also feature USB charging ports for customers’ mobile phones and tablets and a new design that allows for quicker wheelchair fastening, which can speed up customer boarding. Many of RTA’s vehicles also feature bike racks allowing for bicycle riders to bring their bikes along with them for their bus trips.
The new buses are also equipped with security cameras and GPS technology that allows the buses to display upcoming stops and provide automated announcements and other customer service messages.
In fiscal year 2015, RTA buses handled a record 9.6 million boardings, the highest total in its 38-year history; evidence that RTA’s ridership continues to outpace regional and national ridership trends. The Agency’s fleet currently includes more than 163 fixed-route buses, 193 Dial-A-Ride vehicles and 10 trollies.

This is GREAT, but what time does the LAST bus from Riverside, around the University/Mission Inn area return to Perris?
Would it be late enough for a person to attend a club or the New Year party at the Art Museum and return back to Perris AFTER 2AM or later????
THAT is the time there would be NEED for the free bus service.
