As the officers approached the two subjects and attempted to contact them, both men fled on foot, leading officers on a foot pursuit. According to officials, officers detained one subject hiding in a near-by carport. He was reportedly detained without further incident.

During their investigation, the detained subject, identified as Edward Jerome Ochoa, 33, of Riverside consented to a search. Officers discovered Ochoa was in possession of methamphetamine and suspected burglary tools. According to a press release, officers found “an altered tool that was likely being used to open mailboxes.” Officers arrested Ochoa at 4:38 a.m.

A jail records search showed Ochoa was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He was cited and released from jail a few hours later. Ochoa is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice on April 19.
