MENIFEE: Critically injured hiker air-lifted from rugged Menifee trail

A call from an injured hiker on a Menifee trail this morning brought emergency first responders from multiple agencies together for a coordinated rescue effort. The victim was safely hoisted from the area and brought to emergency first responders by a sheriff’s helicopter.

The hiker, who was not identified, had reportedly hiked along a trail on the West end of McCall Boulevard and Valley Boulevard in Menifee. At some point during their hike, the victim sustained what were described as critical injuries by April Newman, press information officer for CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire.
Firefighters received the call at about 8:20 a.m., responding with a dozen personnel from two engine companies and one truck company.
According to Newman, the first arriving engine company advised the victim was located in a rugged and inaccessible area where their ground resources would not be able to assist in a rescue. Firefighters called for assistance from Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit for a “Technical Rescue”.
Riverside Sheriff’s Star98 responded to the area to assist in the rescue. Upon arrival, a deputy was lowered to the victim’s location with a litter and line. Star98 completed a successful hoist of the patient and brought them down to awaiting paramedics.
Newman explained in the press release that the patient was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition.
No information had been released regarding the circumstances that led to the victim’s injuries and rescue.
