PERRIS: UPDATE – Man sought in fatal shooting at Perris restaurant

PERRIS – Five men were shot in Perris on Monday, Jan. 25, according to sheriff’s officials. One of the victims succumbed to their wounds and died at the scene.
In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Rob Thompson wrote that at about 1:00 a.m., officers from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police Station responded to 911 reports of shots fired and an assault with a deadly weapon. Callers reported that multiple people were shot at the El Nayarit Mexican restaurant located on the 100 block of South D Street, in the city of Perris.
When officers arrived at the restaurant they located five male victims suffering from gunshot wounds, Thompson wrote in the press release. “Two of the victims were transported to local area hospitals for serious injuries and two for minor injuries. The fifth victim died at the scene,” according to Thompson.
Perris Station investigators and investigators from the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the business and assumed the investigation.
The victim has only been identified as an adult male. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Sheriff’s officials have announced a “person of interest” being sought in the fatal shooting incident. He has been described as a Hispanic male adult, approximately 30-40 years old, with facial hair. The man was seen to be driving a tan or light color, unknown year Ford Explorer.
In the press release, Thompson wrote, “This is an active and ongoing investigation and the Central Homicide Unit is encouraging the public or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Investigator Stoyer of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777, or Investigator Pico of the Perris Sheriff Station at (951) 210-1000.”
