Woman arrested after dangerous stolen vehicle pursuit in Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY – A woman in a stolen SUV led deputies on a pursuit through Moreno Valley, Sunday, May 29. The pursuit began at 3:13 p.m. when a deputy from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station spotted a green 1995 Ford Escape that had been reported stolen being driven southbound on Rio Bravo Road.

At the end of the pursuit, Ashley Jazmin Santos, 28, was arrested and later booked for two felonies and two misdemeanors related to the dangerous chase, as well as an additional felony charge for attempting to bring a controlled substance into a jail facility.

During the short but dangerous pursuit, Santos drove without regard for the safety of citizens or pursuing deputies, failing to stop for at least four stop signs and one red light. After running the red light, Santos nearly collided head-on into a fire engine that was responding in the opposite direction to an unrelated emergency.

The pursuit ended three minutes after it began when Santos drove down Wendy Way, which ends in a cul-de-sac, just east of Perris Boulevard. Deputies took Santos into custody without further incident. When deputies arrested Santos, they learned she was on probation.

Santos was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of possession of stolen property, bringing a controlled substance into a jail facility, recklessly evading police, driving on a suspended license and revocation of probation. She is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice, June 2.
