Arrest made in 2 1/2 year old San Jacinto murder
SAN JACINTO – Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and San Jacinto Police Station made an arrest after a 2 1/2 year investigation into the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old San Jacinto resident, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeff Buompensiero. The fatal shooting occurred in the 400 block of El Dorado Street, in San Jacinto.
“Investigators from the Central Homicide Unit…have been actively working this case,” Buomonsiero explained. “On Friday, June 24, Michael Allan Diaz, 47 of San Jacinto, was arrested for the murder of Jason Wasson.”
The investigation began in October 2013, when an unidentified female called 911 and told Riverside County dispatchers an assault with a deadly weapon had occurred at her residence at 8:05 p.m. The caller told dispatchers that a man had been shot in
Deputies from the San Jacinto Police Station were dispatched to the residence to investigate the reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found Wasson suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. Paramedics treated Wasson at the scene before they transported him to the Hemet Valley Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
At the conclusion of the lengthy investigation, officials developed enough information and evidence to arrest Diaz for the fatal shooting.
A jail records search revealed Diaz was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of murder and battery. He is being held in lieu of one million dollars bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Southwest detention Center in Murrieta June 29.
