Hemet officer suffers “significant injury” during violent confrontation with suspect

HEMET – A Hemet Police officer was seriously injured in an altercation and foot pursuit of a suspect during a traffic stop, Sunday, June 26, at about 3:15 a.m.

The violent confrontation began in the area of Lyon and Latham Avenues when a Hemet Police officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop after observing a vehicle code violation. During the stop, one of the occupants in the vehicle was identified as Adolfo Quintana, 21, of Hemet.

The officer recognized Quintana, who was known to have a felony warrant for violation of his Post Release Community Supervision for a previous incident where he violently resisted a peace officer.

As the officer contacted Quintana, the suspect broke away and fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, “the officer chasing Quintana sustained a significant injury and was no longer able to continue his pursuit,” according to police officials. 

Quintana was able to evade officers at the time.

Adolfo Quintana needed to be medically cleared for booking after he attempted to resist K9 Jack during an arrest.

Later, Hemet Police officers resumed the search of Quintana which led them to Fontana. Hemet Police officers, with assistance from Fontana Police officers, attempted to contact Quintana at an apartment complex in north Fontana.

Quintana again fled on foot nearly eluding capture once again, but he was ultimately apprehended by Hemet Police K9 “Jack.” Quintana attempted to violently resist K9 Jack. However, once caught in the jaws of the law he was quickly taken into custody.

Once in custody, Quintana was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for medical clearance related to multiple dog bite related injuries.

He was then transported to Riverside County Jail. Quintana was booked on the Post Release Community Supervision warrant and held without bail.
