Two men shot during robbery of unlicensed Moreno Valley marijuana collective
MORENO VALLEY – Two men were shot during an early morning robbery Sunday, August 21 in the 23000 block of Sunnymead Blvd in Moreno Valley. The two men were shot at an unlicensed marijuana collective undergoing construction and renovation at the location, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Lieutenant Ron Heim.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station and other emergency first responders rushed to reports of shots fired and people injured at the commercial building at about 1:47 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics treated the two victims before transporting both shooting victims to an undisclosed hospital, Heim wrote in a press release about the incident. Their injuries were described as serious.
Based on the preliminary information gathered by deputies, investigators from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to assume the investigation.
“The business, an unlicensed marijuana collective, was not open at the time of the incident,” Heim explained. “Several people were inside conducting maintenance in anticipation of opening the business within a few weeks.”
Further investigation revealed three black male suspects entered the store carrying firearms. While inside the business the suspects began firing their weapons, wounding two victims before fleeing.
During the robbery, the suspects fled with several packages containing marijuana.
