City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to Western Ave. just before 2 a.m., after receiving reports of a man down in the area.

When officers arrived they found a 28-year-old man “suffering from multiple stab wounds,” Hemet PD later said in a press release about the violent incident.

“The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is still undergoing treatment for his extensive injuries,” said Hemet PD. “The victim’s condition is listed as critical at this point.”

During their initial on-scene investigation officials learned the stabbing happened about two blocks away, in the area of Valley View Dr. and W. Latham Ave. Officers located an apparent crime scene and Hemet PD volunteers were called to the scene and assisted the investigation by closing down traffic to the residential neighborhood.

Based on the circumstances, Hemet PD’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They were assisted by forensic technicians from the department’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau.

Officials were later seen searching for, documenting, photographing, and collecting, various items of evidence and spent an extended amount of time searching the roof of an area residence for evidence related to the stabbing.

As their investigation was continuing, officers identified and detained a juvenile male as a possible suspect in the violent incident. The teen was later arrested and charged with attempted murder and booked into custody at Juvenile Hall.

Hemet PD’s investigation is ongoing and officials have not released the victim’s name.
