TRAFFIC ACCIDENT RESULTS IN STOLEN VEHICLE ARREST
On September 21, 2016, at about 2:00 a.m., officers responded to the 9300 Block of Garfield Street regarding a single vehicle collision involving a stolen vehicle. The driver was taken into custody upon arrival of responding officers. The investigation revealed, the driver was intoxicated while driving the stolen vehicle when he fell asleep and crashed into a parked vehicle. Also, the driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
The driver was identified as Brandon Randall, 23-year-old of Riverside, he was arrested and booked into jail for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
POSSESSION OF STOLEN CHECKS AND DRUGS
On September 19, 2016 at about midnight, officers contacted two suspicious subjects sitting in a vehicle at a local motel located at the 11000 Block of Magnolia Avenue. It was learned through the officers’ investigation that the passenger was on probation for narcotics and in possession of stolen checks that were taken during a burglary. Also, the passenger admitted to being in possession of methamphetamine that was hidden on his person.
The passenger was identified as Jesse Rivera, 32-year-old of Riverside, and he was arrested and booked into jail.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST FOR IDENTITY THEFT
September 18, 2016, at about 3:45 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of La Sierra Avenue and Collette Avenue. Through the officers’ investigation, it was learned that the subject was in possession of false identification cards and credit card information. Also, it was learned that the subject had just made a fraudulent purchase at a local electronics store, was in possession of drugs, and had two outstanding warrants.
The subject was identified as Servando Paz, 30-year-old of Riverside. Paz was arrested and booked into jail.
PAROLEE FOUND IN POSSESSION OF STOLEN CAR, DRUGS, CREDIT CARDS, CHECKS AND ID’s
On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at about 1:30 a.m., officers driving through the parking lot of the Motel 6, in the 3600 block of La Sierra Avenue, saw a male subject quickly walk away from a vehicle that was missing the front license plate. The officers contacted the subject and found he had a outstanding warrant for a parole violation and the vehicle was found to be recently stolen out of Lake Elsinore. The officers located several credit cards, identification cards, and checks belonging to possible identity theft victims. The suspect was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine which he admitted was for the purpose of sales.
Robert Lopez, 28-year-old transient of Riverside, was arrested and booked into jail for auto theft, identity theft, drug sales, parole violation, and failing to register as a sex offender.
DISTRAUGHT SUBJECT ARMED WITH LARGE KNIFE
On August 27, 2016 at about 2:00 a.m., officers responded to the Canyon Crest Neighborhood in reference to a distraught subject armed with a knife claiming he wanted to commit “suicide by cop.” Officers located the subject walking down the street armed with a large butcher style knife and a butane torch. The subject was obviously agitated and pleaded with the officers to shoot him.
Assisting officers and supervision arrived, and quickly formulated a plan. When the armed subject began walking back towards his family members, gave the officers the opportunity to safely detain the subject without further incident. The subject was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.
OFFICERS ARREST SUBJECT FOR IDENTITY THEFT AND DRUGS
On Thursday, August 25, 2016, at about 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the 6600 block of Palm Avenue regarding subjects who were trespassing inside a vacant residence. The officers located a male suspect inside and found him in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine, as well as several pieces of mail, ID’s and documents belonging to others. A records check revealed the suspect is also on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).
While conducting their investigation, the officers contacted one of the names on this found mail and ID’s and learned they had been a recent victim of mail and identity theft. Jimmy Waters, 43-year-old of Moreno Valley, was arrested and later booked for identity theft, possession of drugs and violation of PRCS.
AUTO THEFT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST
On June 25, 2016, a victim had his truck stolen from the AM/PM market parking lot at 4901 La Sierra Avenue. The truck was recovered later that same day but with the victim’s numerous tools used for work missing. Officers recovered video surveillance footage of the suspect from the business and the victim saw the suspect in a vehicle days later and wrote down the license plate.
Detective Saldana, assigned to the West Neighborhood Policing Center, went to the suspect’s home several times but did not locate him. Detective Saldana did not give up on the case and periodically conducted surveillance of the suspect’s home.
On Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at about 10:00 a.m., Detective Saldana saw the suspect in the 11100 block of Mountain Avenue and placed him under arrest. A subject who was with the suspect was also arrested for an unrelated felony warrant. Kurt Patrick Miller, a 60-year-old Riverside resident, was later booked into jail for auto theft.
SUSPECT IN POSSESSION OF ITEMS RELATED TO IDENTITY THEFT
On August 17, 2016 at about 3:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and Madison Street regarding two subjects attempting to break into vehicles. Upon arrival, the officers were able to locate and detain one of the subjects who was identified as Angela Vandiver, 36-year-old of Riverside.
Prior to being detained by the officers, Vandiver discarded several items related to identity theft and stolen mail. A records check of Vandiver also revealed that she had felony warrant for her arrest. During the booking process Vandiver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, which was concealed on her person. Ultimately, she was arrested and booked into jail for identity theft, possession of stolen mail and possession of methamphetamine.
EXTRA PATROL AT PARK LEADS TO DISCOVERY OF STOLEN MAIL, FAKE MONEY AND DRUGS
On Saturday, August 13, 2016, at about 8:45 a.m., officers assigned to Watch B (dayshift) were conducting extra patrol at Anza Narrows Park, in the 5700 block of Jurupa Avenue, when they made an occupied vehicle check. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, the officers found numerous items of mail and personal information belonging to several different people. They also located methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and forged U.S. Currency.
The passenger had a felony warrant for her arrest and both occupants were detained and taken to the police station for further investigation. At the station, the officers were able to locate a victim of an unreported vehicle burglary that occurred on Monday where some of the items located were stolen.
Justin Woodward, 20-year-old male of Riverside, and Jocelyn Sanchez, 24-year-old female of Riverside were arrested and later booked into jail for identity theft, forgery, possession of stolen property and illegal drugs
PROBATIONER ARRESTED AFTER COMPLIANCE CHECK
On Friday, August 12, 2016, at about 4:30 p.m., the West Post Release Accountability and Compliance Team (PACT) conducted a probation search in the 3800 block of Buchanan Avenue in the City of Riverside. During the probation search, PACT personnel located over a 1/2 pound of Methamphetamine, $1,700 in U.S. Currency and numerous identification cards and checks belonging to numerous subjects.
The suspect arrested was identified as Rodney Cross, 50-year-old from Riverside. He was later booked into jail for the transportation and sales of controlled substances, identity theft and violation of probation.
DISTRAUGHT WOMAN THREATENING HARM SAFELY DETAINED AND TAKEN FOR EVALUATION
On Thursday, August 11, 2016, at about 4:50 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Pierce Street and Hollyhock Lane for reports of a female who was bleeding. Upon arrival, the officers attempted to calm the female down who was holding a piece of concrete in one hand and a piece of broken glass in the other. She kept walking into traffic and attempting to cut her neck and wrist with the glass while telling the officers to shoot her.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get the female to drop the glass, a taser was deployed and the female was safely taken into custody. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and and evaluation.
SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE CALL LEADS TO ARRESTS FOR MAIL THEFT
On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at about 1:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Lancelot Court, in the Hawarden Hills neighborhood, regarding a suspicious vehicle. They arrived and located the vehicle and its two occupants. Their investigation revealed these subjects were in the process of stealing mail and had several stolen items consistent with identity theft in their possession. One subject was also in possession of methamphetamine and both were on probation for identity theft.
Jorge Garcia Jr., 22-year-old of Adelanto, and Elizabeth Piehl, 37-year-old of Moreno Valley, were arrested and later booked into jail for possession of stolen property, burglary tools and drugs, conspiracy to commit theft, and probation violations.
TRAFFIC STOP LED TO DISCOVERY OF HANDGUN
On August 8, 2016 at about 3:45 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near University Avenue and Douglass Avenue. It was learned that the driver was an unlicensed driver and a convicted felon. During a search of the vehicle, the officers found a handgun located in a passenger compartment within the driver’s reach. The driver was identified as Rigoberto Martinez, 34-year-old of Riverside, he was arrested and booked for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
LPR HIT LEADS TO ARREST / RECOVERY OF STOLEN CAR
On August 4, 2016 at about 1:45 a.m., officers received a stolen vehicle, from a License Plate Reader, (LPR), notification from the North Neighborhood Policing Center. Several minutes later, the officers located the vehicle near 7th Street and Ottawa Avenue. The occupants were detained without incident. The driver was found to be on probation and had prior arrests for auto theft. Also, both the driver and passenger were found to be in possession of shaved keys.
It was determined that the driver was in possession of the vehicle and he was identified as Tony Gutierrez, 33-year-old of Riverside. Gutierrez was arrested and booked into jail for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and probation violations. The passenger was issued a citation for being in possession of burglary tools.

Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 12 grandchildren.
