MENIFEE: Alcohol intoxication suspected in fatal motorcycle crash
MENIFEE – A motorcyclist died Friday, Sept. 23 in an early morning solo-vehicle motorcycle accident when he crashed his customized Harley Davidson on Newport Road just west of Haun Road in Menifee.
The victim was later identified by coroner’s officials as Casey Ivey, 41, of Winchester.
The coroner’s release indicated Ivey’s time of injury was 12:55 a.m. He died nearly three hours later at 3:35 a.m. at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
The coroner’s release stated Ivey was killed on eastbound Newport Road, about 540 feet west of Haun Road, in Menifee.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Menifee Police Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the location at 12:56 a.m. after receiving 911 reports of the single vehicle motorcycle traffic collision.
Upon arrival deputies, firefighters, and paramedics located a wrecked motorcycle and Ivey down on the ground in the center median of the roadway.
Paramedics treated Ivey, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle at the scene before they transported him to Inland Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 3:35 a.m.
The Menifee Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the location to conduct an investigation into the fatal accident.
Eastbound Newport Road between Sherman Road and Haun Road was closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation.
Their preliminary investigation showed Ivey was riding his customized Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Newport when he collided into the raised center island.
After hitting the center median Ivey lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to suffer his fatal injuries.
At 4:38 p.m. on Sept. 22 almost exactly eight hours before his fatal accident, Ivey wrote on Facebook, “I have (realized) in my ripe old age, that I’m not as wise as I liked to believe I was. Funny how life continues to teach you lessons that will shed light on your current circumstances and humble you, no matter how old you get.”
On the same day, about one hour later and just over seven hours before his accident, Ivey shared on Facebook that he was drinking at Pitstop Pub Sports Bar & Grill in Menifee.
The Pitstop Pub Sports Bar and Grill is located at 26900 Newport Road in Menifee, less than one mile from where Ivey suffered his fatal accident.
“Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this collision,” according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Edmondson.
“This investigation is ongoing,” Edmondson wrote in a press release about the deadly accident.
Anyone with information on this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Grimm at the Perris Sheriff’s Station at (951) 210-1000.

DOES NOT MEAN HE WAS INTOXICATED. He was hanging out for a long time. When deputies cite “alcohol played a factor” that could mean four beers six hours earlier. Let’s keep Caseys memory and spirit respected and alive. Miss you bro…you will always be with me when Erin and I tat ?????
Article shows 7 hours earlier he was at Bar drinking, doesnt mean he was there 7 hours and drinking and if he was he may only have had a couple beers, only the people with him, bartender who served him would know and since no BAC was mentioned speculations is all to go by. Just because you went to a bar, drank beer earlier and then stopped 2,3,4 hours earlier you would still have beer breath and could be considered DUI yet BAC is under .08.
If his BAC wasn’t above legal limits then his widow should have a retraction made from local news and police clear up his name since they assume alcohol played a roll.
Also in State of Californian a bartender or Owner can be accountable for his death for allowing him to get intoxicated and leaving place of business. Years ago that law was made and many disputes since bars/pubs make money of alcohol and food, they keep serving but bartender and others are to keep knowledge of how much each patron is served to keep this from happening. Not saying lawsuit but others have filed on cases like this and won but doesnt bring the deceased back, just causes more hurt.
All very true. He could have been there for seven hours playing darts, or shooting billiards, or just hanging out talking about his bike with friends. Only the BAC from toxicology reports will reveal the truth.
