HEMET: Fleeing motorcyclist hospitalized after violent wreck
HEMET – A motorcyclist fleeing from Hemet police officers sustained head injuries and was hospitalized when he smashed into the back of a car at the end of a pursuit Saturday, Oct. 22.
A Hemet police officer initiated the vehicle pursuit at 7:54 p.m., after attempting to stop a man riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The officer advised dispatchers the motorcyclist was driving in a reckless manner and based on his driving actions was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The suspect fled southbound on Buena Vista Street with the officer in pursuit behind him. While he was attempting to elude pursuing officers, the motorcyclist drove on the wrong side of the roadway at a high rate of speed; without regard for the safety of other citizens or pursuing officers.
The pursuit continued for about two minutes until the suspect smashed into the back of a car near Stetson Avenue and Dartmouth Street.
After the violent collision, Hemet officers requested a blood nurse to respond to the location of the accident to have the suspect’s blood drawn and tested for alcohol or drug intoxication.
Paramedics treated the suspect at the scene before they transported him by ground ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly uninjured in the collision.
