RIVERSIDE: Man arrested, released after downtown bus station stabbing
RIVERSIDE – Riverside police officers arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed a person at the City of Riverside’s downtown bus station Sunday, Dec. 4. The bus station is in the 3900 block of University Avenue in Riverside.
After an investigation, officers arrested Anthony James Pearce, 28, of Riverside. He was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Riverside police officers responded to the bus station about 6:45 p.m., after receiving reports of a possible stabbing at the location.
When they arrived, officers found an victim suffering from a non-fatal stab wound. Riverside Fire Department firefighter/paramedics treated the victim, who was then transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.
The victim, who has not been identified, is expected to survive, according to police officials.
Officers obtained a description of the suspect and broadcast the description of the alleged suspect to other officers in the area.
Officers working at the nearby Fox Theater spotted an individual matching the description. The man was later identified as Pearce. Officers detained Pearce without incident. He was later positively identified by a witness as the suspect in the stabbing.
A jail records search revealed Pearce was released from jail Dec. 7, due to lack of evidence or pending further investigation. It was not immediately known if Pearce was still considered a suspect in the stabbing or if charges would be refiled against him.
The investigation into the stabbing is active and ongoing.
