RIVERSIDE: Vehicle burglar in possession of stolen mail and narcotics arrested

RIVERSIDE – Officers arrested a burglary suspect after he was spotted by a Riverside police detective in the 3500 block of Central Avenue Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Shawn Childress was arrested for burglary, possession of stolen mail, and other charges.

After an investigation, officers arrested Shawn Michael Childress, 43, of Riverside. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of burglary and other charges.

Riverside police officers were notified by a Riverside police detective that he had spotted the vehicle burglary suspect identified as Childress, about 5:20 p.m. The detective located Childress near the Riverside Plaza on Central Avenue.

The detective followed Childress until additional responding officers arrived.

When they arrived, the officers conducted a traffic stop near Arlington Avenue and the 91 Freeway. They detained Childress without incident.

During the traffic stop, officers conducted a records check and learned Childress had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on a previous arrest. Officers arrested Childress for his warrant.

During a subsequent search of Childress and the vehicle he was driving after his arrest, officers found drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, and several pieces of stolen mail. After they arrested Childress he was booked into jail.

A jail records search revealed Childress is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Dec. 9.
