GLEN IVY: Adult and child seriously injured when SUV overturns
GLEN IVY – Two victims, including a juvenile, sustained major traumatic injuries in a solo-vehicle rollover accident Tuesday, Dec. 13. Two other juveniles who were in the SUV when it rolled over were not seriously injured.
The accident happened about 8:53 p.m., in the area of Indian Truck Trail and Towhee Lane in an unincorporated area of Corona known as Glen Ivy.
Cal Fire/Riverside County and City of Corona Fire Departments, California Highway Patrol officers and AMR medics responded after the rollover accident was reported.
Fourteen firefighters from three engine companies and one truck company responded to the reported rollover accident, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer Tawny Castro.
The first arriving fire personnel reported finding a vehicle on its side to the rear of Deleo Regional Sports Park, Castro explained. There were a total of four victims, including one adult and three juveniles. One of the victims, described only as a minor, was trapped under the rolled SUV. The other third minor suffered minor injuries and the fourth juvenile was reportedly uninjured.
A witness to the rollover described seeing “three very young-looking kids” after the accident. The witness explained one of the children had a large cut on his leg, another appeared to be uninjured, and the third was the trapped victim who had to be extricated from under the rolled SUV.
The location and difficult terrain hampered rescuers efforts and it took firefighter/paramedics about 45 minutes to extricate the trapped minor.
After the trapped juvenile was extricated from under the SUV, a Mercy Air ambulance transported the child to an area hospital in serious condition. The adult driver was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital in serious condition.
CHP officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
