RIVERSIDE: Man arrested, accused of 2 home invasions and carjacking
RIVERSIDE – Police officers arrested a man after he allegedly forced his way into two apartments – attacking occupants inside both residences – then attempted to carjack a vehicle from a third victim Thursday, Dec. 15. The two home invasions happened at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Van Buren Boulevard in the City of Riverside. The attempted carjacking happened in the 3100 block of Myers Street.
After an investigation, Riverside police officers arrested Michael Anthony Dilauri, 30, of Riverside. He was booked into jail for kidnapping, false imprisonment, carjacking, and violence against an elderly person.
The incident began when officers responded to an apartment complex about 5:50 p.m., regarding two possible home invasion robberies that just occurred.
As officers were arriving, Riverside PD emergency dispatchers relayed updated information that the suspect who had just forced his way into two different apartments was attempting to steal a vehicle down the street, near Myers and Rudicill Streets.
Responding officers and a police K9 quickly located and safely detained the suspect without incident. They identified the alleged suspect as Dilauri.
Officers conducted a record check and determined Dilauri had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court for allegedly exhibiting a firearm or other deadly weapon during a prior, unrelated incident.
During their investigation, officers learned Dilauri had forced his way into two apartments because he believed for an unknown reason that he was being chased by law enforcement officers. Investigating officers determined Dilauri was not being pursued by any law enforcement agencies when the incidents occurred.
Officers learned that during two separate home invasions Dilauri had assaulted occupants from both apartments. One of the physical altercations involved an elderly adult. After he was involved in the two separate apartment altercations, Dilauri fled from the apartment complex and attempted to carjack a vehicle from a third victim on Myers Street.
Officers conducted an in-field show-up at which time all three victims positively identified Dilauri as the suspect who had attacked each of them.
A jail records search revealed Dilauri was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping, false imprisonment, carjacking, and cruelty to an elder or dependent adult. He was also booked for his warrant.
Dilauri is being held in lieu of $110,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Tuesday, Dec. 20.
