LA QUINTA: Officials still investigating woman’s kidnapping claim
LA QUINTA – Sheriff’s officials updated that they are still investigating a woman’s claim that she was kidnapped Tuesday, Jan. 10. The woman claimed the kidnapping happened near the southeast corner of Highway 111 and Adams Street in La Quinta.
The woman, who officials have not yet identified, alleged that a 25 to 30-year-old middle-eastern man driving a late-model sedan stopped his vehicle along the curb near the bus stop and pulled the victim into his vehicle. The woman claimed the suspect then drove away with her.
The woman claimed to authorities that she was able to resist the suspect and flee from the vehicle in the area of Highway 111 and La Quinta Drive.
She reported the incident to officials about 8:24 p.m.
“After further investigation, investigators from the Thermal Station have determined that a kidnapping did not occur,” Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Alan Northrup explained. “The suspect did not pull the victim into his vehicle.”
“This is an active and ongoing investigation and investigators are continuing to determine what in fact occurred during this incident,” Northrup said.
It was not immediately known if authorities planned on filing charges of making a false report or what further action would be taken against the woman who made the allegations.
