RIVERSIDE: Police K9 apprehends car theft suspect after foot pursuit
RIVERSIDE – Authorities arrested a man after he fled on foot from a stolen car, leading officers on a foot pursuit Tuesday, Jan. 10. The man was eventually apprehended by a police K9. The incident began after officers located the stolen car in the area of Babb Avenue and Chapel Street.
Officers arrested Diego Valenzuela Jr., 23, of Riverside after he was apprehended by a police K9. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for being a felon in possession of stolen property, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, and disobeying a court order.
Officers located the stolen car while on routine patrol about 8:30 p.m. When officers were approaching the vehicle, Valenzuela “immediately abandoned the car and fled on foot,” according to a police press release about the incident and arrest.
Officers pursued Valenzuela, who temporarily managed to evade them.
With assistance of a police K9 handler and his K9 partner “Noran,” officers conducted a yard-to-yard search and eventually located and apprehended Valenzuela.
An online jail records search revealed Valenzuela was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court Jan. 13.
