RIVERSIDE: Officials investigating report of attempted kidnapping
RIVERSIDE – Police officials are investigating reports of an attempted kidnapping after a woman told authorities two men attempted to pull her into their truck Sunday, Jan. 15.
The victim managed to break free and run away from the two men involved in the incident, which occurred in the area of Market Street near the river bottom bridge, north of Rivera Street in Riverside, according to Riverside Police officials.
Officers responded to the scene about 6:16 a.m., after City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a female reporting the attempted kidnapping.
The victim told officers she was walking on Market Street when a black truck with two Hispanic male occupants pulled up alongside her. The two men then engaged the victim in conversation.
The victim told officers as the three were talking, the passenger got out, grabbed her, and attempted to drag her into the truck. The woman said she fought back against her would-be kidnapper and managed to break free from his grasp. She then ran away.
The victim described the suspect who grabbed her as a Hispanic male, between 20 to 30 years old, 5’10” tall, 180 pounds, with long black hair in a ponytail. (See police sketch.)
He was the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, which she described as an older, small, black truck; possibly a Toyota with a single cab. The victim also described the truck as being in good condition.
The victim was only able to describe the driver as a Hispanic male.
