HEMET: Four, including 1 juvenile, arrested after shooting incident

HEMET – Sheriff’s officials arrested four people, including one juvenile, after the group discharged a firearm from a moving vehicle Monday, Jan. 23. The shooting happened in the 19600 block of Gilman Springs Road in the unincorporated area of Hemet.

The investigation began about 2:34 p.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a citizen reporting four subjects in a black compact sedan had fired a weapon from their vehicle before fleeing the area.

The 911 caller was able to provide the suspect’s vehicle description as well as a license plate number for the car.

Dispatchers provided the vehicle and suspect information to deputies who responded to the area and began searching for the car and four subjects.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet/Valle Vista and San Jacinto Police station began searching the area for the vehicle.

San Jacinto PD deputies located the vehicle traveling southbound on San Jacinto Avenue south of 7th Street, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Frank Tiburzio. The vehicle was still occupied by the originally reported four subjects.

Deputies conducted an investigatory vehicle stop near San Jacinto and Esplanade Avenues, where they detained the four subjects in the car for further investigation.

During a subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle, deputies located a firearm that was possibly used in the shooting incident. Deputies conducted a records check of the firearm and determined weapon had been reported stolen.

At the conclusion of their initial investigation, deputies arrested 22-year-old, Alondra Nicholas Gutierrez, 19-year-old, Phillip Jesus Rivera, 19-year-old Sam Skipper, and a 17-year-old male juvenile for charges related to “willfully and maliciously discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle,” Tiburzio explained.

The adults were all booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta. The juvenile was booked into Riverside County Juvenile Hall.

An online jail records search revealed Gutierrez was booked on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while in possession of a loaded firearm, reckless driving with a suspended driver’s license and a vehicle code violation. She was released from jail Jan. 25, after posting $10,000 bail.

Rivera was booked on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while in possession of a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest. He is being held in lieu of $70,000 bail.

Skipper was booked on suspicion of three counts related to shooting from a moving vehicle. He was released Jan. 24, after posting $10,000 bail.

The juvenile was booked on similar charges, as well as one count of possession of a stolen firearm, according to Tiburzio. It was not immediately known if the juvenile was still being held at juvenile hall.

There were no reported injuries related to this incident.
