Temecula man arrested in Murrieta after vehicle pursuit
A Temecula resident was arrested after leading sheriff’s deputies on a dangerous, high-speed pursuit in a stolen Mercedes Benz Feb. 10. The pursuit began in the area of Mission Trail and Malaga Drive and ended on Single Oak Way in Murrieta.
Tyler Nutting was arrested after leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit.
After he was apprehended, the suspect was identified as Tyler Nutting, 23, of Temecula. Nutting was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of multiple felony crimes related to auto theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, felony evading, as well as narcotics possession, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Dan Ponder.
The incident began about 1:45 p.m., after deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Police station spotted a 2016 Mercedes Benz sedan that matched the description of a vehicle that had been reported as stolen from the city of Temecula.
When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Deputies requested additional assistance and initiated a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit traveled on surface streets from Lake Elsinore through Wildomar. Due to the driver’s speed and aggressive driving, deputies lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Clinton Keith Road and the Interstate 15 freeway, Ponder explained.
After losing sight of the vehicle, deputies broadcast the suspect’s information as well as the stolen sedan’s description to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Within minutes deputies were notified that Murrieta police officers had responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the 23000 block of Single Oak Way in Murrieta. Another 911 caller reported seeing a man running through residential properties in the same area.
Murrieta police officers, with assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s aviation unit responded to the area and eventually located and detained the man seen running from the area. Officials identified the driver as Nutting. They also located the stolen Mercedes Benz.
Lake Elsinore police officials responded to the location and positively identified the sedan as the vehicle that fled from them. They also identified Nutting as the man who had led them on the pursuit.
Authorities conducted a records check and confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from the city of Temecula.
A jail records search revealed Nutting was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, recklessly evading police, and possession of stolen property. Nutting is being held in lieu of $100,000. His next court date is scheduled at the Southwest Justice Center Feb. 16.
