UPDATED: SAN JACINTO: Man arrested after allegedly shooting 2 with shotgun

SAN JACINTO – Sheriff’s officials arrested a man Thursday, Feb. 16, accused of attempted murder in the shotgun shooting of two victims. The shooting happened at a residence in the 500 block of Palm Avenue southwest of De Anza Elementary School in San Jacinto.

Devin Smith was arrested for attempted murder in the shotgun shooting of two victims in San Jacinto.

Authorities arrested Devin Adriel Smith, 25, of Riverside, after they located him while serving a search warrant in the 4600 block of Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside.

After his arrest, Smith was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of attempted homicide and possession of an illegally modified short-barreled shotgun.

The investigation began, Jan. 15, after sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of the double shooting. When they arrived, deputies located two adult victims, a male and a female. Both had been shot with a shotgun at the Palm Avenue residence.

“An unknown male suspect had entered (the victim’s) property and fired several rounds from a shotgun striking the victims,” Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Robert Duckett explained. “The victims suffered non-life threatening wounds from the shotgun pellets as they ran for cover.”

Based on the circumstances of the shooting, investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s San Jacinto Police station responded to the home and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, officials identified Smith as the alleged suspect in the shooting.

An online jail records search revealed Smith is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. His next court date is scheduled for Feb 22.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
