SAN JACINTO – A driver suffered major traumatic injuries when their vehicle plowed into a tree Sunday, Feb. 19. The accident happened in the area of West Ramona Expressway near Chase Street in San Jacinto.

Emergency first responders were dispatched to the wreck about 7:30 a.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls from citizens reporting the major-injury traffic collision.

Fourteen firefighters from four engine companies responded to the accident scene according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman. They were assisted by a paramedic squad and AMR medics.

“The first arriving engine company reported one vehicle into a tree,” Newman explained. The barely recognizable car, which was described as a white Kia, was so badly damaged that firefighters had to perform “extensive extrication” to remove the driver from the destroyed car, according to Newman.

“Firefighters were able to extricate the occupant of the vehicle,” Newman updated after the incident. “The patient was transported by ground to an area hospital in serious condition.”

While firefighter/paramedics evaluated and treated the injured driver, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s San Jacinto Police station conducted an investigation into the cause of the accident and assisted with crowd and traffic control.

After the driver was transported to an area hospital, the victim’s car was towed from the scene.

The cause of the investigation is under investigation.
