The suspect, who was later identified as Jesse Wayne Osburn, 35, of Menifee, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of residential burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. He was also booked on an unrelated, domestic violence warrant.

The residential burglary investigation began Monday, March 27, after a Menifee home in the 29000 block of Morning Breeze Drive was burglarized, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Sam Morovich.

During their investigation, deputies determined a green 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle – valued at $11,000 – was stolen from a locked garage at the residence.

After the initial investigation, deputies assigned to the Menifee and Perris Station’s Special Enforcement Teams assumed the investigation.

While investigating the burglary, SET members developed leads and information that led them to the 32000 block of Beechum Way in Homeland.

As deputies approached the area they spotted Osburn riding the stolen motorcycle.

When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle, Osburn immediately fled from them into the nearby foothills, Morovich explained in a written press release after the arrest.

During the pursuit, Osburn managed to temporarily elude capture and managed to evade the pursuing deputies, who eventually lost sight of the fleeing man.

Deputies created a perimeter around the area Osburn was last seen and requested support from a sheriff’s K-9.

“The K-9 unit was able to successfully track and apprehend Osburn,” Morovich said.

After he was located, deputies arrested Osburn.

An online jail records search revealed Osburn is being held in lieu of $35,000 and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center April 7.

The burglary and investigation into Osburn’s activities is ongoing, according to Morovich.
