After investigating the cause of the minor-injury traffic collision, officials arrested Salvador Velazquez-Madrigal, 20, of Perris, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Edmondson explained in a written press release after the incident.

He was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs, a misdemeanor.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police Station responded to the wreck at 3:44 p.m., after emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting the crash.

Members from the Perris Traffic Unit responded to the scene of the crash and assumed the investigation.

While investigating the cause of the collision, deputies determined a white Nissan Sentra being driven by Velazquez-Madrigal collided into the rear of a red Chevrolet Traverse.

“The female driver of the Chevrolet was treated at the scene and transported to a local medical center for precautionary measures,” Edmondson explained. Deputies conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests, at which time “(Velazquez-Madrigal) was found to be impaired by marijuana.”

During their investigation, officers called for the temporary closure of sections of Perris Boulevard and Nuevo Road, to ensure the safety of fire and law enforcement officials at the scene of the accident.

The roads were re-opened a few hours after the accident, after officials concluded their initial accident investigation.

An online jail records search revealed Velazquez-Madrigal was cited and released a few hours after his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta August 21.
