HEMET: Purse snatch victim’s daughter chases down suspects, recovers mom’s purse

HEMET – Several juveniles were detained and a stolen purse was recovered after numerous juveniles ran into an open garage, snatched a purse and ran off into a dark neighborhood. The residential burglary happened in the 900 block of Mayberry Avenue at the intersection of S. Santa Fe Avenue in Hemet.

City of Hemet police officers were dispatched to the home about 9:30 p.m., after the victim and several witnesses called 911 to report the burglary and theft.

Callers told emergency dispatchers that a group of six to eight black male juveniles ran into an open garage and stole a purse that was left momentarily unattended.

The daughter of the woman whose purse was stolen reportedly chased down the suspects fleeing with the purse and recovered it before officers arrived.

Callers told dispatchers that after the victim’s daughter recovered the purse, a man was seen chasing and yelling at the juveniles, who were last seen running southbound on San Jacinto Avenue.

Officers flooded into the neighborhood within minutes of the call being dispatched and quickly detained several juveniles who were seen running from the area.

Although the victim’s daughter managed to recover her mother’s stolen purse, according to an officer at the scene, neither the victim nor any of the witnesses were able to positively identify any of the detained juveniles as being involved in the burglary and theft.
