UPDATED: MORENO VALLEY: $500K bail for unlicensed, DUI, hit and run driver who killed 1, injured 1

MORENO VALLEY – A Moreno Valley resident who allegedly plowed into two pedestrians and fled the scene is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall Of Justice tomorrow, May 19.

The fatal collision – which left one dead and another with major injuries – happened Tuesday, May 16, at the intersection of Kitching Street and Brodiaea Avenue in Moreno Valley.

After the hit and run collision, both victims were rushed to Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley.

One of the two victims died about twenty minutes later in the hospital’s emergency room.

Coroner’s officials later identified the victim as 33-year-old, Lindsay Rogers, of Moreno Valley, She was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 7:13 p.m.

“The second (male) victim suffered multiple, traumatic injuries, but is expected to survive,” Riverside Sheriff’ Sergeant William Stens said in a written press release after the incident and arrest.

The unlicensed driver who fled was later identified as 53-year-old, Lillie Marie Gilbert.

Jail records indicated Gilbert was arrested in the area of Moreno Beach Drive and Auto Mall Parkway in Moreno Valley, where she had driven the car after the deadly collision.

After authorities tracked her down, she was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run causing injury or death and felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury or death. She was also booked for driving without a license and two misdemeanor theft-related warrants.

An online Superior Courts record search revealed Gilbert has an extensive arrest history in Riverside County, with arrests dating back to 1992.

Over the last 25 years, Gilbert has been arrested by multiple law enforcement agencies, in cities and unincorporated areas throughout Riverside County.

The career criminal, who has nearly a dozen aliases, including Linda Marie Gilbert, Linda Craig, Lillie Marie Craig, Lillie Gilbert and numerous variations of those names, was 28-years-old the first time she was arrested in Riverside County.

Gilbert’s Riverside County arrest history lists nearly 20 arrests.

Her previous charges include possession and passing of fictitious currency, forgery, vehicle theft, burglary, receiving and possession of stolen property, fraud, petty theft, petty theft with priors, committing a crime while on bail, sales and distribution of narcotics, possession of methamphetamine and other narcotics, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia.

She has been charged more than a dozen times with prior prison enhancements and has also had numerous cases with charges for failing to appear in court.

Gilbert pleaded guilty and was convicted in each of her former cases within the county.

Her past sentences have ranged from 36 months summary and formal probation, supervised release and time in both county jail and state prison.

She remains in jail, held on $500,000 bail.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the intersection at 6:49 p.m., after several people called 911 to report the hit and run.

Deputies arrived within minutes and located two pedestrians down in the roadway.

Both victims had sustained major, traumatic injuries and were treated at the scene by firefighter/paramedics before AMR medics transported them to nearby RUHS.

According to several motorists and witnesses who remained at the scene of the deadly collision providing medical aid to the injured pedestrians, both victims had been struck by a vehicle as they were walking across Kitching Street.

Witnesses told investigating deputies that the driver did not stop and did not attempt to provide medical aid to the two victims. Witnesses also provided deputies with detailed descriptions of the female driver and the vehicle she was driving when she struck the two pedestrians and fled from the scene.

Deputies quickly put out a general broadcast with the suspect and vehicle description to deputies and other law enforcement officers in the area. Gilbert and the vehicle were both located a short time later, according to Stens.

Moreno Valley PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Their investigation is ongoing.
