REDDING: Couple arrested after man ditches girlfriend, flees from stolen car
REDDING — A man and woman were arrested after they were spotted in a stolen vehicle Wednesday, July 26. One of the suspects fled from the vehicle on foot and was later tracked down and apprehended with assistance from a CHP Aviation Unit and Redding PD K-9.

Redding Police Officer Wes Townsley was on patrol in the area of Oasis Road and Vigil Court at 4:42 p.m., when he observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen by the registered owner.
When Townsley attempted to contact the occupants of the car, the driver, who was later identified as Victorio Tort Rhoades, 47, of Redding, fled on foot.
He managed to temporarily elude capture and was last seen running towards a neighboring yard. The passenger, Alythea Martin, 29, of Redding was detained at the vehicle.
Officer Josh Tracy and his K-9 partner Njord, CHP – Northern Division Air Operations and other Redding police officers responded to the area to assist in searching for Rhoades.
Members of the CHP aviation crew located Rhoades attempting to hide on the roof of a nearby residence.
He ultimately surrendered without incident, according to Redding PD officials.
Officers arrested Rhoades, who is on parole for terrorist threats, for possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting/delaying a police officer and violation of parole.
Martin was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Both were booked at Shasta County Jail.
Rhoades remains in custody and is being held without bail. No information was available regarding Martin’s arrest.
