FRENCH VALLEY: Dispute between neighbors leads to one shot, one detained
FRENCH VALLEY — What began as a neighbor dispute erupted in gunfire during a volatile incident that happened in a newer and otherwise quiet, residential neighborhood, Friday, August 25.
The shooting, which resulted in one person being transported to an area hospital with “non life-threatening injuries,” happened in the 38000 block of Talavera Court, between Murrieta Hot Springs and Pourroy Roads, in French Valley.
A man was shot when a dispute between neighbors escalated and turned violent. The street where the shooting happened was less than one-half mile from two nearby schools.
“At this time the incident appears to be a result of a neighborhood dispute,” Sergeant Geoff Green explained in a written press release after the incident, adding that there were no unidentified or outstanding suspects related to the non-fatal shooting incident and that there was no immediate threat to the public.
Although the shooting happened while school was in session at nearby Alamos Elementary and Bella Vista Middle Schools, which are both located just one-half mile from where the shooting happened, because all the involved parties were located and accounted for, neither schools were locked down after the shooting or during the subsequent hours-long investigation.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Southwest Station were dispatched to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on the street at about 10:47 a.m., after several witnesses and area residents called 911 to report the shooting. Callers reported hearing as many as four shots fired during the incident; which reportedly happened in the roadway.
When sheriff and fire personnel arrived at the scene they found an adult male suffering from at last one apparent gunshot wound. Officials also located and detained the person who allegedly shot the victim.
“The names of the victim and suspect will not be released pending the completion of the investigation,” according to Green.
Based on the circumstances, Southwest Station investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is active and ongoing.
While sheriff’s officials investigated the shooting, they called for the temporary closure of Talavera Court, which was blocked off at the intersection of Encanto Road. The roadway was still closed at 3:30 p.m., several hours after the investigation began.
