MENIFEE: Man arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting “several” woman on RTA bus
MENIFEE — Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man accused of inappropriately touching “several female bus riders” while riding on a bus carrying passengers from Riverside to Menifee Friday, Nov. 10. According to officials, the man was arrested on McCall Boulevard, between Bradly Road and Sun City Boulevard in Menifee.
After an investigation, deputies arrested Michael Douglas Avery, 46, of Riverside. He was later booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of several counts of sexual battery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of parole, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Sam Morovich explained in a written press release after the incident and arrest.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Menifee Police Station responded to an RTA bus that was stopped along McCall Boulevard at 3:50 p.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received at least one call reporting the multiple incidents.
When deputies arrived they learned that multiple victims were claiming Avery had touched them in a sexual manner.
The multiple incidents happened while the bus was traveling to Menifee from Riverside.
Based on the numerous victim and witness statements, deputies arrested Avery.
An online jail records search revealed Avery remains in custody and is being held without bail on a parole violation. He is scheduled to be seen at an unspecified court Nov. 17.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
