City of Corona Police and Fire personnel responded to the home about 1:52 p.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon at the location. Officials did not specify who called 911 to report the deadly incident.

When officers and paramedics arrived, they found 64-year-old, Lidia Urrutia, unconscious and suffering serious injuries inside the residence.

Paramedics rushed Urrutia to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

During their investigation, Corona police officials learned the victim’s son, later identified as Gilberto Urrutia Perez, 45, of San Bernardino, had been at the home with his mother and had been visiting for thanksgiving.

He was seen leaving the residence just before Urrutia’s other family members entered the home and discovered her lifeless body on the floor.

Officers searched the area and located Perez at nearby Brentwood Park and they arrested him without incident. He was later booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of murder and elder abuse.

Based on their investigation, after Perez’ arrest officials stated there were no outstanding suspects.

As a result of injuries suffered at the hands of her son, on Sunday, Nov. 26, Dr.’s treating Urrutia determined she no longer had brain function and her family began the process of arranging for the donation of their loved one’s organs.

An online jail record search revealed Perez remains in custody on $1 million bail and he is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Dec 13.

The investigation is active and ongoing and officials have not released any known motive for the deadly attack.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Jurado at (951) 279-3628 or by email.
