HEMET: Minor injuries, after accident sends SUV plowing through wall and into mobile homes
HEMET — Two drivers sustained minor injuries after a traffic collision sent a large SUV hurtling through a wall and into two mobile homes, Friday afternoon, Dec. 8. The accident, that left both mobile homes and several parked vehicles damaged, happened near the intersection of Kirby Street and W. Oakland Avenue in Hemet.
Hemet Police and Fire personnel responded to the scene of the crash about 3:30 p.m., after motorists and other witnesses called 911 to report that two vehicles had crashed at the intersection and one of the two involved vehicles plowed through a brick and wrought iron perimeter fence and wall before smashing between two mobile homes at the Colonial Golf & Country Club mobile home park.
When they arrived, officials found two wrecked vehicles, including a black, Nissan sedan and a black, Chevy Suburban. The two vehicles reportedly collided in the intersection, which sent the Chevy careening through the low perimeter wall and between two mobile homes before it came to rest against one of the homes.
According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the Chevy SUV was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was later transported to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment, according to a fire official interviewed at the scene.
The other driver was evaluated by paramedics, but refused further medical treatment.
Based on the damage to the two mobile homes, fire officials requested the City’s Building Inspector respond to the scene to inspect both residences.
No one was at the mobile home at the time of the crash.
Officials are investigating the cause of the collision and their investigation is active and ongoing.
